Medardo Arias Satizábal presentó su investigación ‘La verdadera historia de la salsa’

Los caleños conocieron ‘La verdadera historia de la salsa’ y lo hicieron en el lanzamiento del libro del bonaverense Medardo Arias Satizábal, el pasado jueves 24 de enero.
La presentación del libro estuvo a cargo del catedrático Darío Henao Restrepo, decano de la Facultad de Humanidades de la Universidad del Valle, quien hizo una breve reseña de los inicios de la salsa y de manera poética narró apartes de ‘La verdadera historia de la salsa’
Este encuentro contó con la presencia del gobernador del Valle del Cauca, Ubeimar Delgado, y de la secretaría de Cultura y Turismo de Cali, María Helena Quiñónez.
Esta publicación hace parte del apoyo que brinda la Secretaría de Cultura y Turismo de Cali, a los escritores vallecaucanos, a través del programa ‘Leer es una nota’, iniciativa con la cual, la Administración plantea consolidar la capital del Valle como una ciudad más lectora y escritora. Para cumplir este propósito, se busca la elaboración de una estructura integral y la participación de los diversos actores sociales, institucionales y empresariales, que fomentan espacios y escenarios para el diálogo, el reconocimiento y la formación del ciudadano.
‘La verdadera historia de la salsa’ presenta una investigación sobre los orígenes de este género musical, en 273 páginas y 21 capítulos. El lector podrá encontrar una completa historia del compás del son y todos los grandes embajadores del ritmo. Es una publicación que se inició en la década de los 80 y por la cual su autor, fue galardonado con el Premio Nacional del Periodismo Simón Bolívar en la categoría a mejor investigación.
“Lo que el lector puede encontrar en el libro, es la fusión de dos mundos: la salsa de ayer con la salsa de hoy. Esta es una investigación que comienza en África, pasa por Nueva York, República Dominicana, Puerto Rico y termina en Colombia con Jairo Varela”, manifestó el escritor.
El cierre estuvo a cargo de del Grupo Infantil Chiqui Babys, de la escuela Pioneros del Ritmo, de la Comuna 16 del barrio Mariano Ramos. Ellos son los actuales campeones mundiales de salsa en esta categoría.
El acto se cumplió en el auditorio del Centro Cultural de Cali, a partir de las 6:30 de la tarde, en el que amigos, seguidores y amantes de la literatura, compartieron un conversatorio con el escritor y periodista.

Con su libro 'La verdadera historia de la salsa', Medardo Arias Satizábal dice adiós a este género.
"Si tuviera que aceptar mañana el acta de defunción de la salsa, yo lo aceptaría", dice Medardo Arias Satizábal con una voz que suena a resignación.
Es posible que un hombre como él, que a los 12 años presenció la llegada de ese género musical al puerto de Buenaventura en los baúles de los marineros caribeños que tripulaban los barcos de la Graceline, tenga el criterio para escribir el panegírico que habría de leerse en el entierro de la salsa.
Y eso fue lo que hizo. Escribió La verdadera historia de la salsa, movido por un amor profundo que se remonta a 1981.
En ese entonces era un joven periodista del Diario de Occidente, que publicó ensayos sobre la salsa en un intento por teorizar aquellos elementos -bien fuera el ulular de las trompetas o el golpe de unas congas- que lo pusieron en un trance desde que estaba en el vientre de su madre.
"A Buenaventura llegaron las compañías norteamericanas que tenían tripulación caribeña. Los marineros cubanos y puertorriqueños, junto con los hombres de la flota Grancolombiana, trajeron a mediados del siglo XX, las raíces de lo que hoy se conoce como Salsa", dice el escritor.
Para Arias, la verdadera historia comienza en África y termina en Cali con la muerte de Jairo Varela. En su libro, plasma una genealogía de los parientes ancestrales de la música que tipos como Pete Rodríguez y Richie Rey inmortalizaron. Cuenta el libro que Rey causó conmoción en Cali con su primera visita en la década del sesenta.
Arias poco escucha lo que suena en la radio ahora. Cuando la nostalgia lo invade, se sienta frente al tocadiscos y se pierde en el siseo hipnótico que produce la aguja sobre el acetato.
"La salsa se está convirtiendo en una pieza de museo. Hoy hay una cantidad de cosas nuevas. Pero de lo que sí estoy convencido es que el sonido de la salsa de los años 70 no volverá", confiesa.
