http://www.euronews.net/ Spain has won a lengthy legal battle with US treasure hunters over ownership of one the largest hauls of gold and silver ever recovered from the sea.
The collection of 19th century coins, worth close to an estimated 400m euros, was recovered from a sunken galleon of the Spanish coast in 2007.
The salvage company involved, Odyssey Marine Exploration, shipped them to America.
But a US appeals court ruled it acted illegally.
The Spaniards are so arrogant... the gold was plundered from South America and as it was being stolen and sent to Spain the ship sank... Thief that steals from Thief...

Sarawq12... Odyssey exploration team did nothing to quote HIDE ..modern day pirate ship? Whatever! This treasure could if been lost forever because of the historical importance as well as value -it had to be moved ! HELLO did the Odyssey have guns missiles & cannons? Just cameras and professionally handiling ! Nope didn't get payed for any of it! Sorry-You've missed the show!

After all that expense and work it took finding it, only to have it taken away. You can bet the next haul they find goes on the black market. I for one would never open my mouth about any treasure I may find,The outcome will be the treasure ripped from your hands. HISTORICAL gold and silver will get melted down into nice ingots. Better to have 1/10 of the value then to have it ripped from your hands and not get a penny. Screw Spain and screw historical value after I watched the news on this.

You should be proud of your judges not of these modern-day pirates that are plundering, trafficking and selling the nation´s historic and cultural heritage only for money. They were too greedy and lost it all.

@Louistuf You don´t know what u are talking about.Odyssey lied to the Spanish Government about the location of the shipwreck etc..when Spain came to suspect the treasure had been looted from a Spanish frigate, the coins had already been secretly flown out to Tampa without any authorizacion,of course the company did all this during the night like the thieves they´re,so Spain opened an investigation to find out where the company found the loot, what wreck belonged to what permissions had to do it.

Funny thing when the exploration began Spain showed no interest until they learned there was Gold! Omg lets hold the US Oddiysis ship from leaving for 6 months / possibly shooting a unarm exploration ship, till they get the gold! Did they offer to pay for the peservation or the operation cost of 35000 thousand dollars a day to get it? That's a big negativo! Spain will have to prove the world if the treasure will be preserved or melted down to gold bars for greed! The

That aboriginal society was part of the Spanish Empire, the Inca Empire didn´t exist at that time. You won´t see any Spaniard claiming to Italy all the gold taken from the Spanish gold mines of Hispania when it was part of the Roman Empire,it would be absurd. The gold was taken from a Spanish territory, the coins are Spanish, with the image of Spain´s king and they´re part of the Spanish underwater historic heritage.

No.Peru did not even exist and the Viceroyalty of Peru was a Spanish territory, the gold was a Spanish property, the ship was Spanish and its destination,Spain.Once again the judges have spoken and the gold has been returned to the rightful owner,Spain.

the boat was a Spanish frigate, the laws make it clear that it is considered a war grave and therefore is considered SPANISH SOIL ... Latin America at that time was a Spanish possession there is no discussion possible
